genus Dolichopus

Here are species in the genus Dolicopus identified from the Oxbow area (Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, Indiana). You can click on a picture to getter a higher resolution version of it.

D. longipennis Loew. IN, OH; June, July.
Femurs are all yellow	ocellar cilia are light colored and antenna is yellow	No cilia on the underside of hind femur This character is easier to understand by comparing with D. reflectus and D. scapularis.	Fore tibia are ornamented with long dark hairs on the last 2 segments, but the segments themselves are not enlarged or flattened.	Wings are long and narrowing at the base a little more than is typical in the genus. There's a lobe in the wing edge at the end of the 6th vein.

All femora dark, lower orbital cilia are light colored.	Hypopygeal laminae pointed	Vein M without sharp angle and stump vein.

Dolichopus reflectus Aldrich IN; May, July.
Femora are yellow, hind tibia with distinct dark tip, hind taris are all black. There's a 90 degree bend in the 4th vein and a "stump vein" extending beyond it.	Hind femur with a row of dark cilia	Antennae bases are yellow.

Yellow femora, light ocelar cilia, dark calyptral setae, all yellow hind tibia and hind tarsus 1 mostly or all yellow.		Underside of hind femur with long cilia	Postpronotum (humerus) yellow, not metallic.	Front is green/violet

Yellow femora, light ocelar cilia, yellow hind tibia and tarsus, ornamented fore tarsus. Hind coxa yellow.	Ornamented 5th segment of fore tarsus white

Dolichopus pulchirmanus IN; May.
Yellow femora, light ocelar cilia, yellow hind tibia and tarsus, ornamented fore tarsus. Hind coxa yellow.	5th fore-tarsal segment forked, with white tip. 3rd segment white, flattened.
