Week of March 29 – April 2 (First Week)

Learning to type and understand the input statements
of  Chapter 1 (MATHEMATICA Basics)

Most of the input statements of Chapter 1 can be downloaded from the notebook accessed by clicking here.

Some of the animations require adjustments to the control buttons.

It is helpful to evaluate the MATHEMATICA Input statements as you read in the text what they do.

Week of April 5 – April 9 (Second Week)

Solving the various problems assigned in the download prepared for Chapter 1.

Each of the following Labs will begin with a short quiz on the most basic techniques.

About 10 minutes should be sufficient and the questions will be similar to the previously assigned problems.  Then, the remainder of these labs will be devoted to new topics in our textbook.  As the course progresses, there will be new notebooks to download for evaluation as the corresponding topics are covered in the textbook.  The corresponding MATHEMATICA notebooks are downloadable from hyperlinks appearing below.

________________________________________________________________________

No homework will be collected.  Grades will be based solely on the short quizzes given at the beginning of each class from the third week onward.  There is no final examination.

Week of April 12--April 16 (Third Week)   Examination 1

Input statements for Chapter 2 can be downloaded by clicking here.

The only serious misprint occurs in the formula for   slopeMovie   on page 61.

There should be a comma at the end of the third line from the bottom of the page.

Week of April 19—April 23 (Fourth Week) Examination 2

Input statements for the first part of Chapter 3 (Pages 69—85) can be downloaded by clicking here.

Week of April 26—April 30 (Fifth Week) Examination 3

Input statements for the last part of Chapter 3 (pages 85—100) can be downloaded by clicking here.

________________________________________________________________________

Week of May 3—May 7  (Sixth Week) Examination 4

Input statements  (written in InputForm rather than StandardForm) can be downloaded  by clicking here.  They may be evaluated one-by-one as you read about the corresponding topics in Chapter 4.   The only serious misprint in this Chapter occurs at the bottom of page 128 where the formula for  simpsonData  should have

       wt[i_] := 3. + (-1)^i              in place of           wt[i_] := 3. +(-1)^(i-1)      .

________________________________________________________________________

Week of May 10—May 14  (Seventh Week) Examination 5

Input statements  (written in InputForm rather than StandardForm) can be downloaded  by clicking here.  They may be evaluated one-by-one as you read about the corresponding topics in Chapter 5.

Week of May  17---May 21 (Eighth Week)  Examination 6

Input statements (written in InputForm rather than StandardForm) can be downloaded by clicking here.  They may be evaluated one-by-one as you read about the corresponding topics in Chapter 6.

________________________________________________________________________

Week of May 24---May 28 (Ninth Week)  Examination 7

Chapter 8 contains a very interesting animation for polar coordinates on page 218.

Input statements can be downloaded by clicking here.  They may be evaluated one-by-one as you read about the corresponding topics in Chapter 8.  Chapter 7 of our textbook corresponds to subject matter (infinite series, functions defined by power series, etc.)  that is covered in Calculus III.  Thus, we shall skip Chapter 7.
