Syllabus:   The times indicated are approximate.  Any change in the syllabus will be announced in class.

                                      Chapter 1                       1.0 to 1.5 weeks      (Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7)

                                      Chapter 2                       2.5 to 3.0 weeks      (Sections 2.1 through 2.10)                            

                                      Chapter 3                       2.5 to 3.0 weeks      (Sections 3.1 through 3.8)

                                      Chapter 4                       3.0 to 3.5 weeks      (Sections 4.1,4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 4.9)

 

Testing and Grading Policy:  There will be three 50-minute examinations and a 2-hour final examination. 

Each 50-minute exam will be graded on a basis of 100 points and will count as 1/5 of your final grade. 

The first hour of the final examination (the Department’s Comprehensive Multiple-Choice Examination) will be graded on a basis of 100 points and will count as 1/5 of your final grade.  The second hour of the final examination is one that your teacher prepares for you; it will also be graded on a basis of 100 points and count as 1/5 of your final grade.       

 

                             Test 1            Friday, October 12,       9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.

                             Test 2            Friday, November 2,     9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.

                             Test 3            Friday, November 16,   9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.

 

                    Final Exam           Two Parts each one hour long; On Thursday, December 6, 2001, at 10:30-12:30, in Zimmer Auditorium.

 

     Partial credit on tests is awarded only for work, which is mostly correct except for one on two minor errors.  You will not be given partial credit for attempting to solve a problem by an incorrect method.  You must show your work on the tests.  A correct answer without the accompanying correct work will receive no credit; an incorrect final answer accompanied by mostly correct work will receive substantial credit.  Also, it is the responsibility of each student to arrange the work in a logical manner and to write legibly.  Remember, when your paper is graded, the grade is based on the work shown, not what was intended or implied.  Please bring and use Examination Booklets (i.e. “Blue Books”) for Tests 1, 2, 3 and the second hour of the two-hour final examination.   The use of pocket calculators is prohibited only during the first hour of the final examination.

 

Withdrawal Policy: A withdrawal with passing status (W) will be permitted up through Friday, November 16, 2001.  After that date, withdrawal slips cannot be processed.
