Open Positions

The department invites applications for the following positions:

1. One or more visiting assistant professorships. These positions will be one year appointments, renewable for a second year. Workload includes 8-9 credit hours of teaching per quarter and an active research program. Priority will be given to applicants whose research interests overlap the research interests of department faculty.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences is dedicated to excellence in both research and teaching. A strong research program and evidence of high-quality teaching skills are required for all positions.

Applicants should apply electronically via mathjobs.org Consideration of candidates will begin by January 15, 2009 but applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. All the above positions require a PhD or equivalent. Appointments will begin September 1, 2009. Inquiries concerning the visiting positions should be directed to Tim Hodges. All positions are currently subject to budgetary approval.

2. One or more tenure-track assistantship professorships. Applicants with expertise in Harmonic Analysis, Probability and Financial Mathematics are particularly encouraged to apply. However, strong candidates whose research interests mesh well with the research interests of department faculty will also be considered. The department has a graduate program offering both MS and PhD degrees with concentration in mathematics and statistics. The Department of Mathematical Sciences is dedicated to excellence in both research and teaching. Candidates should have strong research potential as well as the potential to make a significant contribution to the department’s undergraduate educational mission. The standard teaching load is two courses per quarter.

3. The department has a varying need for adjunct instructors to teach courses at the Calculus level and below in both the day and the evening. Contact Assistant Head Pat McSwiggen for more information. Applicants should have at least a Master's degree in Mathematics or Statistics, or secondary teaching certification in mathematics with high school teaching experience.
