Numerical Analysis Group
Research:
Research in Numerical Analysis has a long tradition in the Department of Mathematical
Sciences with a focus on methods for partial differential equation problems.
People:
Faculty:
- Donald A. French worked on the analysis
of finite element methods since 1982.
- Diego Murio has worked on numerical methods
for inverse heat conduction problems.
- Ning Zhong works on computability.
Graduate Students:
- Mauricio Osorio is working on his PhD in free mesh numerical methods and the
immersed boundary method. His advisor is Don French.
Numerical Analysis Seminar:
There will be talks roughly every other Friday afternoon
from 1-2 PM in Old Chemistry 807.
This seminar is interdisciplinary involving Professors D.A. French (Math),
K. Vemaganti (Mech Eng) and Zhong (Math).
Current talks will provide a very elementary introduction to error
estimation; the primary target audience is graduate students who are
NOT familiar with this subject.
Below is a list of the lectures and titles:
Winter Quarter 2007-8:
- February 1: Donald French "Basic H^1 and L^2 Error estimates
for finite element methods applied to Elliptic PDEs".
- February 29: Donald French "An introduction to the discontinuous and
continuous Galerkin methods (dG and cG)".
- April 18: Donald French ?
- May 9: Mauricio Osario ?
- May 23: Kumar Vemaganti ?
